 About the workshop

Before the Cubist collage made its splash in the early 20th century, a similar art form had emerged in China. Known as “Eight Brokenness,” bapo is making a comeback after a century of oblivion. The workshop presents three takes on the subject, with focus on a bapo fan at the Harvard Art Museums.

 3:30-3:40 Eugene Wang, Opening Remarks.

3:40-4:00 Ashley Hannebrink. “Deceptive Truth: Bapo and Photography”

4:00-4:20 Huanruo Wang. “Bapo: Leftover Things.”

4:20-4:40 Kailin Weng. “Playfulness and Fragmentation: Deciphering the Harvard Bapo Fan”

 4:40-4:55 Nancy Berliner, Discussant.
