Dumbarton Oaks - Curatorial Fellowship for recent or soon-to-be graduated HAA students

Date:

Sunday, April 10, 2022 (All day)

The museum is excited to offer a Curatorial Fellowship for a recent Harvard graduate to help with the various stages of developing the museum’s annual themed exhibitions. Drawing on the strengths of the collection in Byzantine and Pre-Columbian art, the fellow will join the museum team to assist with a cross-disciplinary exhibition on personal adornment as well as the reinstallation of the permanent Byzantine Gallery. The fellow will also assist with events and talks related to the special exhibition Lasting Impressions, including helping implement a graduate student day and other public events.

The fellow will learn firsthand about every aspect of object handling, preservation, and storage, as well as research and development of new exhibition concepts. Additionally, the fellow will work on all aspects of exhibit planning, development, and implementation, gaining practical insight into the span of activities related to the curation, display, and management of collections.

Besides joining the exhibition work, the fellow may assist with data entry, including major projects to catalogue Byzantine coins and to update database records for objects from Central America and Colombia. In addition to gaining knowledge about the specific collections, the fellow will acquire experience with electronic database management, the content management system, and online publication procedures and workflows. This is a great opportunity for students contemplating graduate work in art history or museum studies, and/or a future career involving exhibit development, museum outreach and education, or digital publication and curation.

Candidates should possess:

  • BA from Harvard in art history or related field
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively
  • Strong interpersonal skills
