**Fairbank Center opportunities for undergraduate students:**

1. [**Taiwan Travel Grants:**](https://fairbank.fas.harvard.edu/undergraduate-student-grants/)

We are opening a new Taiwan Travel Grants opportunity for undergraduate students seeking funding for research, creative projects, and independent internships in Taiwan.

- **Research projects** **in Taiwan** may extend beyond Chinese or East Asian studies and may include creative projects. Project proposals should state how the project relates to a student’s course of study and/or career objectives.
- Taiwan Travel Grants can support undergraduates who have independently secured **unpaid summer internships in Taiwan.** Students will provide confirmation of the internship placement in the grant application and will be responsible for arranging their own work permit/visa, travel, and housing.

**For Summer projects, the deadline to apply for a Taiwan Travel Grant is March 25, 2026.** The application will require a statement of purpose (or project proposal), an itinerary and itemized budget, a letter from the hosting institution/organization (if applicable), a resume, a Harvard transcript, and a letter of recommendation. Decisions will be sent to applicants in early April in keeping with the [timeline for Round C Summer Funding opportunities](https://summerfunding.college.harvard.edu/summer-funding-timeline).

2. [**Taiwan Studies Grants**](https://fairbank.fas.harvard.edu/undergraduate-student-grants/)**:**

The Fairbank Center continues to offer Taiwan Studies Grants to support undergraduate students planning to pursue study abroad, academic research or language training in Taiwan **during the semester**. The deadline to apply for a **Fall Taiwan Studies Grant is May 5, 2026**. Note: If seeking academic credit for study abroad this Fall, students must contact the [Office of International Education](https://oie.fas.harvard.edu/) ASAP to request approval of their study plan.

3. [**Gap Semester/Year in Taiwan**](https://fairbank.fas.harvard.edu/undergraduate-student-grants/):

Through our new [Taiwan Travel Grants](https://fairbank.fas.harvard.edu/undergraduate-student-grants/) opportunity, the Fairbank Center can help support a gap-year or gap-semester experience for currently enrolled undergraduates and graduating seniors wanting to pursue non-credit programs, language training, or independent internships at public-interest organizations in Taiwan. To be eligible, students must be planning to return to Harvard to continue their undergraduate degree or to enroll in a Harvard graduate degree program.
