ABOUT KENNEDY &amp; VIOLICH ARCHITCTURE (KVA)

 The design team at KVA Matx works with leading educational institutions, building industry  
manufacturers and public agencies to create designs that advance the sustainable use of  
materials and carbon-zero fabrication techniques in architecture. Located in the former Blue  
Bird bottling plant in Boston’s Newmarket district, KVA supports professional licensure, is  
committed to mentoring and to fostering a social and supportive open studio culture. KVA  
Summer Internships, conducted in-person, offer designers the chance to learn and gain  
leadership experience through hands-on design work and experimentation in KVA’s in-house  
CNC and rapid prototyping workshops.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

 KVA seeks skilled architectural designers with 1-3 years of work experience for full-time, paid  
Summer Internships. Design Interns are involved in aspects of ongoing design projects and  
design research initiatives in wood construction, flat-to-form design, and biomaterials. This  
summer KVA will be working with Brick Manufacturers in Utah and Maine, the design of civic  
infrastructure for public e-vehicle charging, with Community Food organizations, and mass  
timber (CLT) construction and wood in its wildest forms. Summer Internships are full-time, in-  
person positions with a minimum 8-week time commitment. Start dates are flexible in late  
May/June, 2022. Salary will be determined commensurate with prior experience and skill sets.  
Candidates for KVA Summer Internship positions should have excellent ideation and  
communication skills and a portfolio that demonstrates strengths in architectural design, 3-D  
modeling, and physical fabrication. Candidates should bring critical thinking and a passion for  
making and all things design. Proficiency with Rhino 7.0 is required for this position.  
Experience with Revit, Grasshopper, or Rhinoscripting is a plus.
