Summer Architecture Design Intern
Flexible Start Date in Late May or June, 2022

The design team at KVA Matx works with leading educational institutions, building industry
manufacturers and public agencies to create designs that advance the sustainable use of
materials and carbon-zero fabrication techniques in architecture. Located in the former Blue
Bird bottling plant in Boston’s Newmarket district, KVA supports professional licensure, is
committed to mentoring and to fostering a social and supportive open studio culture. KVA
Summer Internships, conducted in-person, offer designers the chance to learn and gain
leadership experience through hands-on design work and experimentation in KVA’s in-house
CNC and rapid prototyping workshops.

KVA seeks skilled architectural designers with 1-3 years of work experience for full-time, paid
Summer Internships. Design Interns are involved in aspects of ongoing design projects and
design research initiatives in wood construction, flat-to-form design, and biomaterials. This
summer KVA will be working with Brick Manufacturers in Utah and Maine, the design of civic
infrastructure for public e-vehicle charging, with Community Food organizations, and mass
timber (CLT) construction and wood in its wildest forms. Summer Internships are full-time, in-
person positions with a minimum 8-week time commitment. Start dates are flexible in late
May/June, 2022. Salary will be determined commensurate with prior experience and skill sets.

Candidates for KVA Summer Internship positions should have excellent ideation and
communication skills and a portfolio that demonstrates strengths in architectural design, 3-D
modeling, and physical fabrication. Candidates should bring critical thinking and a passion for
making and all things design. Proficiency with Rhino 7.0 is required for this position.
Experience with Revit, Grasshopper, or Rhinoscripting is a plus.
