Lecture, 'The good and the new of the "material turn" and its problems', Professor Thomas Cummins

The 44th edition of the International Colloquium on Art History proposes to discuss artistic materials and techniques as foundations of their expressive and communicative capacities. It is about directing the gaze towards central problems in the study of objects: the relationships between concepts, materials, technologies, media and cultural responses, as well as rethinking the categories and definitions of concepts such as "materiality", "technique" and "tradition" .
