Two HAA Seniors Win Hoopes Prizes

May 22, 2020

HAA graduating seniors Lisa Zheng and Gavin Bernard Moulton have won 2020 Thomas Temple Hoopes Prizes, for their theses “Yes She Can: Female Artistic Production in Parisian Art Markets, 1737–1820” and “Şişli Mosque: The Changing Aesthetics and Politics of Mosque Building, Restoration, and Calligraphy in the Turkish Republic, 1923– 1957” respectively.

In addition to recognizing students' "excellence in undergraduate work," the Hoopes Prize also recognizes supervising faculty for their "excellence in the art of teaching." Thus we have also to congratulate HAA Professors Ewa Lajer-Burcharth and Gülru Necipoğlu Kafadar for advising these two prize-winning projects.

Please join us in lauding all four 2020 HAA Hoopes Prize recipients for their outstanding scholarship and advising. Congratulations Lisa, Gavin, Ewa and Gülru.
