DESCRIPTION:<p>	<a data-url="https://haa.fas.harvard.edu/people/patricio-del-real" href="internal:/people/patricio-del-real" target="_blank" title="Professor Patricio Del Real">Professor Patricio Del Real</a>, Assistant Professor of History of Art and Architecture at HAA, will be part of a panel discussion which follows the premiere screening of <em><strong>Borderlands</strong>, </em>the sixth season of <em>Van Alen Sessions </em>at the Van Alen Institute<em>.</em> Produced in partnership with <a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://video.newyorker.com/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1571350931443000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGOdrcp7_HTcPV0ZIAunmEp4mnqkA" href="https://video.newyorker.com/"><em>The New Yorker</em></a>, <em>Van Alen Sessions</em> is a short-documentary series highlighting current debates about urban infrastructure.</p><p>	<em>Borderlands</em> visits six border towns in California, Texas, and Mexico to investigate how urban design can increase cross-border collaboration, strengthen social and economic networks in sister cities where the local economies are linked, and mitigate the environmental impact of construction of border walls in delicate ecosystems.</p><p>	Following the film’s premiere, <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/contributors/stephania-taladrid"><strong>Stephania Taladrid</strong></a> of <em>The New Yorker</em> will moderate a panel discussion with the filmmaker, <strong>Merete Mueller</strong>; <strong>Martita Abril</strong>, Mentor, Immigrant Artist Program, New York Foundation for the Arts, and performer, choreographer, and curator; <strong>Steven Alvarez</strong>, Associate Professor of English, St. John’s University; and <strong>Patricio del Real</strong>.</p><p>	Presented in partnership with<a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://designresearch.sva.edu/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1571350931444000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF4MJhjJNHdcm0G5DmIgvdhuN-Y_w" href="https://designresearch.sva.edu/"> SVA MA Design Research, Writing &amp; Criticism</a>, this screening is<strong> free and open to the public</strong>.</p><p>	This season of <em>Van Alen Sessions</em> is supported, in part, by the <a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.arts.gov/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1571350931444000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF0XgFJDBgxZJb_U3TL_PxQX1ROnQ" href="https://www.arts.gov/">National Endowment for the Arts</a> and the <a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.thefledglingfund.org/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1571350931444000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGVxh1IYtR7k9VtQctj5B9LNGvpQA" href="http://www.thefledglingfund.org/">Fledgling Fund</a>.</p><p>	<drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="9261e702-fe6b-429c-9b21-faa5b9ffb6b3" alt="Van Alen Sessions Event Picture" data-view-mode="hwp_medium"></drupal-media></p><p>	<a data-url="https://www.vanalen.org/events/van-alen-sessions-season-6-screening/" href="https://www.vanalen.org/events/van-alen-sessions-season-6-screening/" target="_blank" title="Van Alen Institute Website">Visit the Van Alen Website </a>in order to RSVP to this event.</p>
