Within the history of contemporary art, Carrie Lambert-Beatty’s research interests include performance, political and activist art, reception and spectatorship, and the aesthetics of deception. She is the author of the book [Being Watched: Yvonne Rainer and the 1960s](https://mitpress.mit.edu/books/being-watched) and essays including [“Twelve Miles: Boundaries of the New Art/Activism,"](https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.1086/521179?journalCode=signs) and ["Make Believe: Parafiction and Plausibility.”](https://direct.mit.edu/octo/article/doi/10.1162/octo.2009.129.1.51/56118/Make-Believe-Parafiction-and-Plausibility?searchresult=1) She is a co-editor of *October* magazine. Prof. Lambert-Beatty holds a joint appointment in HAA and the Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies.
