Shireen Shah is a PhD student in the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies. She studies the transregional material exchanges of the early Islamic caliphates, particularly at their Eastern borders. Her research aims to reposition extant debates on early Islam by synthesizing a diachronic history of exchange that foregrounds the rich interactions between imperial centers and their frontiers. She is currently a Graduate Student Teacher at the Harvard Art Museums.

Before starting her PhD, Shireen earned her master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University (2025). She also holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Art History and Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin (2021) and worked as the Curatorial Assistant for Art of the Islamic Worlds at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
