Joseph Koerner

Sigmund Freud wrote that his patients “suffer mainly from reminiscences.” Freud and other Viennese writers, artists, and architects did too. Linking texts to monuments in Vienna, this course explores memory and the built environment. Authors considered include Freud, Alois Riegl, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Robert Musil, Joseph Roth, and Elfriede Jelinek. Readings in English and German.
