2023 Joseph F. McCrindle Curatorial Internship in European Paintings

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is seeking one advanced undergraduate or graduate student in Art History to intern in the European Paintings Department housed at the Legion of Honor. The intern will work closely with the curatorial staff assisting with permanent collection documentation, research, and daily administrative tasks.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will work closely with curatorial staff on a major initiative to digitize collection records. Typical duties may include entering information from printed catalogues and paper files into the collection database, vetting existing records in the database, and object-file review, as well as more occasional in-depth bibliographic research. The intern may work closely with staff in other museum departments including, but not limited to Registration, Collections Information, Conservation, Publications, and Information Technology. The internship may also involve general administrative support for the European Paintings Department, as well as attending and assisting with special programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Interns are required to commit either a minimum of 20 hours per week over a period of 3 months or 40 hours per week over a period of 6 weeks. Coursework in European art history strongly preferred. BA (or expected BA), including coursework in art history, required. Interns will be working onsite at the Legion of Honor and may be eligible for some remote work.
Interns are required to work either:
-A minimum of 20 hours per week from mid-May through mid-August, 2023
or:
-A minimum of 40 hours per week from early June through mid-July, 2023.
Educational Opportunities:
This internship is an opportunity to work in a position of responsibility in the European Paintings Department of the Fine Arts Museums and contribute to the department's on-going research and documentation initiatives. This internship is geared toward interns with career or graduate school goals within art history, as the experience gained will be within a curatorial department.
Compensation:
Hourly Rate of Pay: $20.00
