First Research Forum of Latin American Architectural Histories: “Historical Archives / Architectural Archives. From the Institution to the Construction of Knowledge.”

Mexico City, April 12–15, 2026

Created in 2023, the affiliate group Latin American Architectural Histories (LAAH) of the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) was founded to bring visibility to the different perspectives in constructing histories of architecture about and from Latin America. This is achieved through disseminating members’ work, mentorship, and forming subgroups with shared thematic interests. After three informal in-person meetings and as a prelude to the 79th Annual Conference of the SAH — which will, for the first time, take place in Latin America — LAAH is organizing its first forum entitled “Historical Archives / Architectural Archives: From the Institution to the Construction of Knowledge.”

The forum aims to foster discussion on different approaches to the historical archive in architecture and on ongoing research derived from an in-depth examination of the archive. It also invites proposals that, due to the high volume of submissions to the SAH Annual Conference, were not able to find a space within that event.
