Coomaraswamy at MFA as the first Indian art curator in North America, which set in motion the study and collecting of South Asian art in the region. The symposium will start with an opening round table honoring a more recent figure to make a major impact on the study of South Asian art, late Professor Pramod Chandra, George P. Bickford Professor of Indian and South Asian Art, Emeritus, of Harvard University who passed away in March 2016.
