Rethinking Landscape Painting: Examining the Change of the Artistic Tradition Through Archaeological Discoveries

Between 1994 and 2016, several landscape mural paintings from the late Tang Dynasty were unearthed from Tang tombs. These discoveries, particularly the 2017 excavation of Su Xiaobin's tomb in Xi’an, provide critical insights into the early development of Tang landscape painting. Professor He will discuss these archaeological findings and explore how they reshape our understanding of the transformation of landscapes 山水之變 during the Tang period.
