Elizabeth “Betsy” S. Hawley, HAA Class of '09
Elizabeth “Betsy” S. Hawley (HAA Class of '09) is an art historian, writer, and curator specializing in art of the Americas and modern and contemporary art. Since graduating from Harvard, she completed a MA at the Courtauld Institute of Art and PhD at the CUNY Graduate Center. She has held curatorial positions at MoMA and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and served as a visiting faculty member at institutions including Boston University, Earlham College, Northeastern University, and Santa Clara University. Hawley is currently an assistant professor of art history at the University of South Alabama, where she balances teaching and research with an active curatorial practice. She recently organized "Native Feminisms" at NYC gallery apexart and forthcoming shows include "Landscapes of Survivance" at the Santa Clara University Art Gallery and "Borderwaters" at the Alabama Contemporary Art Center.
