The Dedalus Foundation is pleased to announce that Professor Suzanne Blier’s book Picasso’s Demoiselles: The Untold Origins of a Modern Masterpiece (Duke University Press) is the winner of the 2020 Robert Motherwell Book Award. The award is given annually to a book that makes a significant contribution to the scholarship of modern art and modernism.

It was noted that her book impressively illuminates in new and bold ways what is arguably the most studied and written about painting of the 20th century. The jury found it to be art history of the highest order, offering an original premise that was rigorously investigated and logically presented, forever changing how this canonical work will be viewed and assessed.
