Ayesha Shaikh

Ayesha’s research investigates visual and architectural material attributed to the Gujarat Sultanate during the early modern period. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked as a visiting research fellow at the Pergamon Museum (Museum für Islamische Kunst) in Berlin and held a nine-month graduate internship at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She received a B. A. in History of Art from the University of California, Berkeley (2017) and a M. S. in Architecture Studies from the History, Theory, and Criticism Program and Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at MIT (2020). Her work has been supported by awards and fellowships from the American Institute of Indian Studies/Council for Overseas Research, the Frederick Sheldon Traveling Fellowship from Harvard University, the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at MIT and Harvard, MIT’s International Science and Technology Initiatives Award, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
