Emma Harutyunyan

Early Modern (Armenian Art)

Emma Harutyunyan's professional focus is on early modern Armenian art, with a particular emphasis on Armenian religious textiles. She has a background in curation and cultural management. Her research centers on the intersection of trade networks, diasporic communities, and rituals during the early modern and modern periods, especially in the movement and creation of sacred objects that reveal the interconnectedness of the early modern world. By studying liturgical textiles, she explores these connections, considering Armenian production across the Ottoman Empire, Mughal India, and beyond.

Emma's goal is to unravel the complex dynamics of economic and cultural relationships that were essential to the development of mercantile networks from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries.

She hold a BA and MA from Yerevan State University.
