Joseph Connors earned a Ph.D. in the Department of Fine Arts at Harvard in 1978, and has taught at the Boston Latin School and at the universities of Chicago (1975-80), Columbia (1980-2001) and Harvard (2011-19). He has served as director of the American Academy in Rome (1988-92) and of the Harvard Center for Italian Renaissance Studies Villa I Tatti (2002-10), and was president of the Renaissance Society of America (2014-16). He has written on Roman architecture and urban history, with a focus on the 16-18th centuries. His interests include the early modern library as well as architectural books, prints, drawings and maps. A monograph on Borromini is in the final stages of preparation.
