Madeleine Giaconia
Modern (20th Century)
Madeleine Giaconia studies modernism and empire in the Soviet Union, with a particular interest in the role of visual culture in interactions between Ukraine and Uzbekistan in the early twentieth century. Her research also considers how the art of the Soviet national republics beyond Russia was utilized in Soviet cultural diplomacy.
Before coming to Harvard, Madeleine worked as a video editor at the Art Institute of Chicago and communications coordinator at The Block Museum of Art. She is also active in narrative film production, and her editing work has screened at venues such as the Palm Springs International ShortFest and Fantastic Fest. She holds a BA in Radio/Television/Film and Art History from Northwestern University.
