María Salvador

María Salvador completed her BA in History of Art at the Universidad de Granada in 2012, which included an exchange at UC Berkeley. Her interest in Japanese religious art led her to complete an MA in Japanese Studies at SOAS, University of London in 2013 and an MA in History of Art at the Ohio State University in 2017. During the latter, María interned in the Curatorial Department at the Cleveland Museum of Art and spent a quarter as a CIC Traveling Scholar at the University of Chicago. She has received several academic awards, including Fulbright, Korea Foundation, and Ishibashi Foundation fellowships. The Japan Foundation and the Canon Foundation in Europe generously supported her field research at Waseda University in Tokyo.

Her dissertation research provides an ecocritical and phenomenological perspective of the art of the Kasuga cult during the late Heian to Muromachi periods. 

Beyond her academic work, María has studied and practiced Japanese painting methods and is a published poet in Spain.
