South Asian Art

Victoria just completed her MA at the University of Chicago Divinity School studying the religious history of South Asia. During her masters studies, she was primarily interested in the incorporation of visual materials and art objects in consecration and devotional rituals within a Tibetan Buddhist context. While she is still interested in the connections and relationships among texts, artworks and devotional practice, she is also keenly interested in working with in-situ artworks (namely wall paintings) and architecture in the western Himalayas (13th-17th c.). During her doctoral studies, she will closely study East Asian (Chinese and Japanese) and Islamic art history. Thus far, her fieldwork has included working across Ladakh, Zangskar, and Tibet documenting Buddhist shrines, devotional materials, wall paintings, stupas, and temples.
